KNYSNA NEWS - Imagine the sound of about 50 chainsaws cutting through the air on a quiet Saturday afternoon… Well, this is exactly what happened during the Knysna Timber Festival over the weekend, when organisers attempted a trailblazing Guinness World Record (GWR) for the number of chainsaws simultaneously cutting through logs.
So, on Saturday 14 March at 14:00, 48 participants were tasked with sawing through logs at the same time, and indeed, a right royal cacophony ensued for what seemed an eternity but turned out to be only about 5 minutes before a red flag was raised to signal completion of the attempt.
The participants broke new ground and made history by being the first in the world to attempt this record.
While there wasn't a GWR representative present due to the costs related to doing so, the organisers fully documented the attempt and will submit it to the organisation for verification – if they can obtain sponsorships to do so.
Festival coordinator Martin Green was overjoyed with the effort, saying afterwards, "I think we have definitely got it. We are really chuffed with the participation!"
