KNYSNA NEWS – The Epilepsy SA South Cape/Karoo Branch in Knysna will be taking its annual candle-lighting ceremony to the public on Wednesday 15 February. It will once again form part of the centre's Epilepsy Week celebrations.
The candle-lighting ceremony is a celebration of the strength of those who live with epilepsy, and is a reminder for them to continue letting their light shine.
It is also held in remembrance of those with epilepsy whose lives were lost in the past year. In recent years the centre has held the event on their premises, but in 2023 they want to take it to the public, as the theme for National Epilepsy Week this year is 'Stamp the Stigma'.
National Epilepsy Week is from 13 to 19 February this year, and the aim is to change the perception of those who live with epilepsy and other neurological conditions by breaking the stigma.
"Please join us and our residents and day care attendees on 15 February at 18:00 at Woodmill Lane around the gazebo as we enjoy an evening of entertainment and light candles in memory of those who have passed from epilepsy and other neurological conditions, as well as lighting candles in solidarity," said Epilepsy SA South Cape/Karoo Branch PRO and marketer Ashleigh Smith.
"Memory candles, hot dogs, quality boerewors rolls, cold drinks and snacks will be on sale to raise money for Epilepsy SA South Cape/Karoo Branch."
