KNYSNA NEWS - The Judah Square community in Khayalethu performed a clean-up of the Bongani river on 6 October, marking the start of National Marine Week.
The community demonstrated their commitment and enthusiasm, aiming to protect rivers and marine ecosystems.
The youth's enthusiastic participation was particularly noteworthy, demonstrating their active involvement in environmental conservation.
The initiative started in 2002, leading to the establishment of the Khayalethu Nature Reserve, a sanctuary that safeguards the river's water source.
The initiative was facilitated by Knysna Municipality, in partnership with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, and the Provincial Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning (DEADP).
The Bongani River clean-up saw many youths helping to clean up the river area.
