KNYSNA NEWS – The Last Fridays initiative is on the go again this week, and will feature a few new additions to its growing roster.
A monthly initiative, Last Fridays was first launched in April this year as a means for venues in Knysna's industrial area to expand their footprint and to invite more people and naturally more patrons to the industrial area who wouldn't otherwise venture into that part of town.
While traditional industrial areas are simply associated with factories and typically expected to be drab, dirty and non-exciting, Knysna's is anything but.
With everything from gin and beer breweries to skate parks and bakeries and art showrooms, the industrial area is home to much more than what usually meets the eye.
The idea behind Last Fridays, which was spearheaded by The Showroom (the team behind The Doos Gallery), was that businesses/venues would open up on the last Friday of each month to give people a chance to explore the exciting studios, artisan spaces and food/drink venues in the industrial area.
While the initiative started with only 10 venues and businesses involved, it has grown to a total of 13 businesses now (of which one will not be open this week).
Some of the new additions are the Urban Grill food truck serving burgers and fries at Red Bridge Brewery in Noble Street; Blue Wave Recording Studio in Meeu Street offering a glimpse into the world of musicians with a live band practice in the recording space; and performance artist DJ Toast performing The Showroom in Meeu Street while you can browse contemporary art at The Doos Gallery.
Businesses' operating times differ, but for Last Friday they will be open between 16:00 and 20:00 tomorrow, Friday 27 September. You can contact Nicki Friedlin on 083 410 1320 for more information on Last Fridays.
