PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Eight primary schools in the Plettenberg Bay area will be receiving 375 pairs of shoes, courtesy of local businessman Alastair September. His donation was made by his trading company, 2SEPPIES, in recognition of community support for his business.
"Most of the communities in Kwanokuthula, Witte-drift, the Crags and Kranshoek have supported me and this is a way I can say 'thank you' to them," said September.
He told a gathering of teachers from eight primary schools at the Plettenberg Bay Golf and Country Club on Monday 30 January that he hoped the children, who cannot afford a new pair of shoes, "will now be able to walk many educational miles in their (South African manufactured) new shoes".
He said his son attended school in Wittedrift and he has first-hand experience of how challenging life can be "because everything is so expensive".
Bitou Mayor Dave Swart said 375 young learners would now be able to walk to school with pride. Swart said it also showed that by supporting local businesses, the municipality helps businesses reach a point where they can also give something back to the community.
"Looking after the youth of Bitou is ensuring the future growth of the community," he said.
Ian Fihla of Phakamisani Primary School thanked September and said some grateful young learners would now have the privilege of going to school in shoes, rather than walking barefoot.
