PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Bitou Municipality delivered an action plan to Green Valley residents following several service delivery issues raised by the community during an imbizo last month.

The plan was delivered to the community by senior officials, including mayor Peter Lobese.

Some of the action the municipality undertook to implement include the following:

• To resolve all storm-water drainage issues within 14 days and to ensure the grass is mowed at the local library and crèche immediately.
• Eskom and the municipality undertook to address electricity supply issues.
• The community asked the municipality for an additional streetlight and Lobese agreed to address this by availing funds through the municipality's adjustment budget in January next year.
• Lobese informed the community that land had been bought in the area and the processes to service it for housing would commence after the environmental impact assessment was done. This land could yield up to 730 service sites.
• The mayor agreed to engage with the Western Cape department of human settlements to have at least 100 sites on the newly acquired land serviced in the interim. This will assist in the relocating of some residents living in horrific conditions.
• The municipality would also ensure that new furniture and appliances are provided for the community hall by mid-December.
• The gravel road in Pine Street would be graded before the festive season.
• Long-term plans for water and sanitation are also in place and have been budgeted for in 2023/24 financial year.
