KNYSNA NEWS - Life Knysna Private Hospital staff took some time out of their busy schedules on Tuesday 16 February to remember and honour the lives of their fellow workers who had lost their lives due to Covid-19.
The event started with a minute of silence, followed by applause to remember staff members who had succumbed to Covid-19.
Life Knysna Private Hospital acting manager Pieter Reynecke said that although their hospital was fortunate not to have lost any staff to Covid-19, they reached out to their colleagues at sister hospitals who have suffered losses. He also commended the team at Life Knysna Private Hospital for the resilience shown over the past 11 months.
They hosted the ceremony in remembrance of each and every fallen staff member, colleague, doctor, family and friend who have lost their lives due to the coronavirus.
"The event was part of a global initiative by the Life Healthcare Group held at 11:00 across all hospitals in South Africa and across Life Healthcare's businesses in the UK and Western Europe," he said.
The lives that have been lost are also "a reminder of the ongoing dedication and service of those who continue to care for our patients and society at large. Thank you to all the fallen heroes and health workers who selflessly rendered their care to others," he said.
"The pandemic has been a real test of the resolve of our hospital, because servicing a small community has meant that we sometimes have had to care for friends, teachers of the past and other people close to us," Reynecke said.
