PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Robyn de Vries, the well-liked and bubbly CrossFit instructor at Plettenberg Bay Gym who was seriously injured in a car accident in Odlands Street on Thursday, 8 August, is on the path to recovery.
Grandmother Henriette de Vries said Robyn (27) was still in ICU "but luckily no bones were broken" in the accident.
The accident occurred at about 1650, a time when the angle of the sun could reportedly to a degree impair the vision of drivers going up Odlands Street towards the Dolphin Circle and Plett centre. It has been described as "dangerous" at that time of the day.
Robyn sat up for the first time on Tuesday 13 August, said Henriette.
"While in a lot of pain and suffering from internal injuries, she is concious and converses easily," said Henriette.
"Her physiotherapist is satisfied with her progress. She gets tired quickly but is progressing well."
Close friend Kristy Kolberg said the accident came as a "big shock", and described Robyn as "a sweet, gentle and careful girl".
"She really doesn't have a harmful hair on her head. She is truly an angel.
"We are positive that she will pull through and be back in full force soon. She's a strong one. You know, she's a CrossFit instructor," said Kolberg.

In a Facebook Post on Plett in Stereo, the family and Robyn thanked all those who assisted after the accident.
"Otto Olivier and the First Responders team, the wonderful ambulance medics, the excellent doctors who first attended to Robyn and are still doing so - and thereafter all the medical fraternity and wonderful hospital staff, their dedication and care is first-class. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all friends and neighbours, far too many to name individually, who have been so supportive at this difficult time and prayed for us as a family," said the post.
Sergeant Chris Spies, media liaison officer; Southern Cape Media Centre of the SAPS, said Plettenberg Bay police opened a reckless and negligent driving docket following the accident.
Two vehicles, a Kia Picanto and a Volkswagen Caddy, had collided.
Spies said the cause of the accident is yet to be established.
