KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna’s Cambridge learners had reason to celebrate following the release of their results last week.
Although they missed out on celebrating with the Independent Examinations Board and government schools who received their matric results earlier this month, this did not dampen the excitement at the only Cambridge school in Knysna, Heatherhill School, over the past few days.
The small group of 15 matrics managed to obtain 11 As and 10 Bs among themselves.
“We are extremely proud of these learners as they had faced tremendous challenges ahead of the exams,” acting principal Lola le Grange said, such as the June 2017 fires.
Le Grange said not only were some students personally affected by the fires, but the tragedy also forced the school to close its doors for several days – this just before they had to sit down and write their exams.
“Therefore these results are exceptional.”
Some of the students who excelled include Luke Goodall who secured five As and two Bs, Michael Coles who managed two As and four Bs; Dylan van der Merwe who obtained three As; Christiaan van Niekerk who received an A and Keegan Vlok and Liam Trusler who obtained a B each.
The results boost the area’s overall matric results even further.
Plettenberg Bay and Knysna matrics showed that the area is a force to be reckoned with academically when the two towns substantially exceeded the national pass rate.
The seven government high schools in the area managed to obtain a 78% pass rate, while nationally only 75.1% of matriculants made the grade.
The Western Cape managed an 84.4% pass rate, taking third spot among all the provinces in the country.
The Free State took the top spot with 89.8%, followed closely by Gauteng with 86.4%. These figures include progressed students.
