RHEENENDAL NEWS - Wholesale and Retail Seta will be the official sponsor of a rural project wherein 200 unemployed, 25 employed and 25 unemployed disabled people from the Rheenendal community will participate in a working retail learnership programme.
The Hands Up for Reaching Potential (Hurp) project is a rural initiative specifically for the Rheenendal community with the main aim of alleviating poverty, creating job opportunities and empowering individuals to write their own story. Giving hope and a sense of achievement.
"We would like to bring a solution to Rheenendal that will be sustained by Rheenendal,” said project managers Lizette Olivier and Charlene Cronje.
"This is not only a learnership programme; the overall goal of the project is to create sustainability in the community. The empowerment zone is where we create the platform for individuals to become self-sustainable and create their own future."
The initiative includes training project managers and administrators, facilitators, assessors and moderators that will be coached and mentored throughout the year by the Hurp team to ensure capacity is built within the community and to sustain the project after the pilot phase. Pre-assessment started during the week of 17 June, community stakeholders have met and internal resource capacitation interviews kicked of the week of 22 June.
Disability sensitisation as well as workplace readiness are included to ensure learners are empowered and can act in a professional manner in their new working environment.
The organisers thanked local retailers who committed and made themselves available for the learners to gain workplace experience in their stores.
Community members and retailers who would like to get involved in the programme can contact Lizette Olivier (project manager) on 082 375 3606, or Charlene Cronje (communications manager) on 074 284 9502.
