GARDEN ROUTE NEWS – "The biker heart is generously caring and giving and while riding in doing so, we are living our passion and dreams," says Andy da Silva, vice-chairman of the Garden Route Moth Motorcycle Association.
The MMA, for short, recently lent a helping hand to members of the community who need it the most.
The MOTH (Memorable Order of Tin Hats), has always been there to support fellow veterans in need, and is known for their unswerving loyalty to their causes. As an extension of the MOTH – the MMA is no different.
On Easter Sunday the vision of bikers supporting the Knysna Vineyard Church, with their initiative of an abandoned baby safe house (Thando House), was born.
The decision to assist at first with the Vineyard project and later on with other similar causes was unanimously approved by all members present at the meeting in April.
"The vision has now become a reality and is known as 'Bikers for abandoned babies'," Da Silva explained. The MMA have now booked a date with SWD to host the inaugural bike run on 17 September and is hoping that all motorcycle clubs in the Garden Route will support the day. The mass run will culminate at Knysna Vineyard Church, with all riders donating an item of clothing or baby hygiene product.
"Our hope is that this event will grow and spread to other towns and cities to become a national day in the biker community in support of all safe houses in SA," Da Silva said.
"We believe that all babies should have the loving care and equal start to life that some are denied, and through this initiative, help bring along change to some lives."
This past Sunday the MMA attended the morning service at Knysna Vineyard and afterwards donated a few items to get the ball rolling.
"We thank Pastor Steve Olivier and Pastor Dee Olivier for having us on the day."
