GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - On 27 July, the Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP) hosted a successful Western Cape Youth Parliament in Cape Town.
Thirty-eight delegates from around the Western Cape, an equal number of female and male representatives, participated in the event hosted by Speaker Masizole Mnqasela.
The delegates represented the Garden Route, Overberg, Central Karoo, West Coast districts and Cape Town Metropolitan.
The delegates participated in two rounds of debate: an unprepared individual round where delegates had to debate a topic for three minutes, and a group round where delegates had to debate a topic as part of a team. After the adjudication, Speaker Mnqasela announced Justin Yawe of the Garden Route and Rayanha Isaacs of the Cape Metro as the winners of the Western Cape Youth Parliament.
Justin and Rayanha will now go on to represent the Western Cape at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, African Region Youth Parliament in Kigali, Rwanda from 10 to 16 September.
The Garden Route did very well. Of the top 10 ,five were from the Garden Route.
Amongst others the young man who won, Justin Yawe and the young woman who came second, Jalaser Bosman. They are both from George Youth Council.
Alutha Phike from Plettenberg bay, Dané Prins from Mosselbay and Jason White from Knysna were also in the top 10.
The Western Cape Provincial Parliament congratulates these two young citizens of our province and sends them with pride to represent the youth of the Western Cape at the continental Youth Parliament in September.
Apart from the two winners, the names of second to fifth place female and male delegates were also announced. These delegates will be involved in other WCPP youth related activities throughout the current financial year. In second place were Jason White of Garden Route and Jalaser Bosman of Garden Route; in third place Shaquille Isaacs of Cape Metro and Alutha Pike of Garden Route; in fourth place were Levis Lewis of Overberg and Shanelle de Villiers of West Coast; and in fifth place were Bradley Onverwacht of Cape Town Metro and Dané Prins of Garden Route.
