KNYSNA NEWS - Local charities have received over R300 000 from the funds raised at the Leisure Isle Festival last month. This popular annual event enjoyed another record year with the highest amount of money it has ever raised for charity and a record 120 stalls.
The benefiting charities are e'Pap, Hospice, Itemba, Kaws, Knysna Sea Cadets, Loeriehof, Steenbok Nature Reserve and the Vermont Centre.
Festival committee chair Niall Johnson said the organising committee is very proud of this achievement and commented that the festival raised a total of R1.2-million for charities over the last five years.
Johnson thanked the lead sponsor, Sotheby's International Realty Knysna, and the many other generous sponsors for their support. "Without them there would be no festival," he said.
He also highlighted the many other benefits the festival brings to Knysna, in particular the opportunity it gives to local emerging crafters and artists to display their talents and set off on the road to starting their own business.
Several exhibitors reported they had received substantial orders for their products locally and across the country.
