KNYSNA NEWS - Nine years after former Knysna traffic chief Anthony Bans was knocked down by a vehicle while on point duty, his son Xamlinkululeko Ncamba (30) was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Sunday 16 June.
The accident happened while Xamlinkululeko and a female acquaintance were walking on a sidewalk in Knysna North near Magadla Tavern (now Corner Tavern).
A taxi had been driving down the wrong lane towards the N2, while apparently in a race with another taxi that it had overtaken.
The driver lost control and veered onto the pavement, knocking down Xamlinkululeko and his friend. He died and his friend was injured, but not seriously.
After stopping briefly at the accident scene, the taxi sped away, according to Xamlinkululeko’s brother, well-known George attorney Bulelani Bans.
The taxi driver is believed to have subsequently handed himself over to the Knysna police.
Knysna-Plett Herald is still awaiting official SAPS comment.
