KNYSNA NEWS – The annual Epilepsy Easter Egg Hunt was held in the crisp air of Leisure Island on Wednesday 5 April.
The event, filled with a variety of fun Easter-themed games and activities, is held annually in support of Knysna's Epilepsy residents.
The day was co-ordinated by the Social Development team which includes the department's community social worker, two Social Development workers and a residential social worker. For the past three years, since the Easter Egg Hunt was moved from the Epilepsy residential property to Leisure Isle, residents have been looking forward to the event even more than before. In all, 40 of the residents took part.
"Our caregivers always love to watch our residents and day care attendees enjoying the day out, as it really lifts their spirits to have a change of scenery, have some fun and to feel part of the community," says Ashleigh Smith, fundraiser, marketer and PRO for Epilepsy SA in Knysna.
The Knysna Lions donated boxes of Easter eggs and further donations of Easter eggs came from the community.
Camaraderie and teamwork were the order of the day as the eager residents made their way around the grassy greens at Leisure Isle searching for Easter eggs. After the egg hunt, they were treated to a scenic beach walk and the day ended off with a traditional braai.
The organisers wanted to give the residents an enjoyable and engaging activity - and residents expressed their gratitude for the day's events with huge smiles and full hearts.
The Epilepsy organisation was founded in 1967 as the South African National Epilepsy League (Sanel), of which the Epilepsy SA South Cape/Karoo branch has been operating since 1999. Epilepsy SA provides epilepsy sufferers with specialised and comprehensive services.
The organisation's goal is to make the quality of life better for those living with epilepsy, spread awareness and ensure equitable care for its residents.
