PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - After a very successful event shedding light on the iconic Forest Hall, the Van Plettenberg Historical Society is set to again put Plett's rich history in the spotlight.
This time round, the talk on 6 October will take a closer look at early Dutch and English settlers who settled in Plett between 1799 and 1850, with Plett resident Mike Kantey sharing the knowledge.
Some of the familiar family names that are woven into the fabric of Plettenberg Bay are Van Huysteen, Van Rooyen, Harker and Newdigate, and they include woodcutters and farmers, residents, artisans and landed gentry who found themselves in the bay more than 250 years ago.
A knowledgeable and well-known local historian, Kantey was for some years an active and valued member of the Van Plettenberg Historical Society committee. Inspired by the late Professor Andrew Duminy, he continues to showcase the area's ancient origins and diverse modern history through his annual Watercourse History Festival in Plettenberg Bay, now in its fourth year.
This event, which includes the organisation's AGM, will be held on Thursday 6 October at Formosa Garden Village.
Although the event will include brief formalities, the AGM it is open to all.
It will start at 18:00 and tickets are R150 per person. This includes entrance fee, talk and refreshments.
Tickets can be purchased online via Quicket, or from Barney's Kiosk at the Market Square Shopping Centre.
