Update
PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The dust has not yet settled in the fracas over the off-road motorcycle track at Harpers Creek in Harkerville, next to the N2.
Knysna-Plett Herald (KPH) reported on the matter in the article "Harkerville: Hark now hear the engines sing" last week.
A post by Harpers Creek owner Brent Harper on KPH's Facebook page has elicited a barrage of comments on the issue.
"Concerning the settlement next to me (Forest View), there is a 2016 document from Western Cape Government saying that Bitou will move the settlement to Kranshoek," he posted.
"It's been almost 10 years and this has not been done. They are not land owners but an illegal settlement trying to do petitions against me. Most of these people work and should not live off government land paid for by our tax because they don't want to rent. Also many allegedly have RDP houses already and refuse to move back to them or rent them out."
Straight talking
When approached for comment, Forest View community leader Frederick Herder said that "straight talking is the answer".
"We reject his application, via a petition, against his motocross biking tracks," said Herder.
He pointed out and that the neighbour-hood has existed for 45 years - "long before he became the owner of that land".
Herder said the settlement had been acknowledged by Bitou Municipality over the years and that the municipality has provided basic services to the community.
