PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Crime fighters confiscated drugs and arrested two alleged drug dealers in Plettenberg Bay on Thursday during pre-weekend intelligence-driven crime combatting operations aimed at “paralysing the lucrative drug trade over weekends”.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie said the drug trade contributes to serious and violent crime in Eden communities.
He said integrated forces pounced on a residence in Stockenstroom Street, Kranshoek, Plettenberg Bay, where they executed search warrants which led to the discovery of 140 Mandrax tablets and 200g of tik.
“As a result, members arrested a 58-year-old man who had been charged with dealing in drugs. Another occupant, the suspect’s girlfriend, was also found in possession of a small quantity of tik, which led to her arrest,” Pojie said.
Another house, situated in Mbeki Street, was also searched. Officers found 36 straws and one bankie of tik in the possession of a 40-year-old woman. She was arrested on the spot. “She also faces a charge of dealing in drugs,” said Pojie.
All the suspects are scheduled to appear in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate’s Court.
Western Cape police management applauded the community for their cooperation in providing valuable information which enabled police to obtain the search warrants.
Eden Cluster Commander Major-General Oswald Reddy also lauded the integrated team’s efforts to eradicate drug distribution in the area and promised to enforce the law with maximum deployments over this weekend.
“Police members will be deployed strategically to continue their focus to clamp down on crime generators such as illegal drugs outlets,” Reddy said.
