KNYSNA NEWS - On Friday 28 March at the Knysna Mall, the Knysna Initiative for Learning and Teaching (KILT) will host part two of its exciting tech drive to collect residents' old technology for upcycling.
They're asking the town's residents to donate old but working cellphones, tablets, laptops and related items, to be refurbished and distributed for use in local government schools.
"Bring your donations to the Knysna Mall on 28 March and meet our IT enablers who will be there to wipe your old technology if you need help, or to show you some great online safety tips," KILT says.
Robotics challenges
"There will be awesome hands-on activities, from robotics challenges to coding games - perfect for novices and tech enthusiasts alike.
"Why is KILT doing this? Because we need the public to donate used but still working tech, to share with local government schools.
"Got an old phone, tablet, or laptop? Come and donate it. Drop them off and laptops and KILT will give them a second life.
"These devices will be serviced and bundled into banks of tech that teachers will use to teach engaging lessons in class.
'Information stays private'
"Worried about your data? No stress! The team will help you back up your files or reset your device to factory settings, so your personal information stays private.
"If you don't have a device to donate but still wish to be of help, the team can also accept cash or card donations at the event, to assist with refurbishing and distributing any donated devices."
Post-event donation boxes
"Need some time to gather your old tech? No problem! KILT donation boxes will still be available after 28 March, so you can drop off your devices whenever you're ready."
Donations can be brought to these convenient locations:
KILT at Melrose House - 34 Queen Street, Knysna;
Incredible Connection - Knysna Mall - (look out for the KILT donation box);
Île de Pain - Thesen Island, Knysna (look out for the KILT donation box).
"Join KILT in making a difference - every donation helps bridge the digital divide and gives learners the tools they need to succeed."
