PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The Feenstra Group, the developers of the "eyesore" on Signal Hill in Plett, says it is steadfast in transforming the current illegal structure on Erf 156.
In an update, the group says it aims to turn the 40+ year eyesore into an iconic, prestigious, high-end and luxurious residential development that will harmoniously integrate with the surrounding properties and the Plettenberg Bay community.
Rezoning applications for Erf 156, advertised on 2 May, have resulted in objections by close neighbours indicating that they will oppose the plans.
The rezoning could also impact on the Signal Hill view site, an iconic Plett tourism spot.
Residents have until Monday 2 June to submit objections to Bitou Municipality.
State-of-the-art
Pieter Feenstra, CEO and chairperson of the group, said his vision is to create "a remarkable state-of-the-art development that will enhance the overall aesthetic appeal and property value of the area".
He said the group was committed to following due process at every stage, working closely with the authorities to ensure all necessary approvals are properly obtained and documented.
They have embarked on the process of formally rezoning the property to allow for the planned residential development comprising nine exclusive units.
Compliance
Feenstra said the rezoning process ensures that everything is aligned and statutorily correct before construction of the development begins, thus maintaining their commitment to regulatory compliance.
As far as the demolition of the existing structure is concerned, he confirmed that Bitou Municipality is in the process of issuing the authorisation for the demolition of the illegal structure on the property.
"Once issued, actual demolition of the structure can commence."
Visual appeal
He assured residents of Plettenberg Bay that the demolition and subsequent development will be conducted in accordance with the prescribed regulatory requirements, building codes, and safety protocols.
"We are confident that our development will not only enhance the visual appeal of Signal Hill, but will also contribute positively to Plettenberg Bay in general, as well as to local property values, and are excited to proceed with the next steps to realise our vision," Feenstra said.
