KNYSNA NEWS - Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies Mondli Gungubele led an oversight visit to monitor the progress of the Broadcast Digital Migration (BDM) programme in Knysna today, Thursday 19 June.
The visit aimed to evaluate the implementation of the programme and ensure its successful rollout. Gungubele was accompanied by Knysna Mayor Thando Matika, his mayoral committee, and councillors.
The visit included door-to-door engagements with residents to assess the quality of installations and the satisfaction of the beneficiaries. There was also an interaction with residents to get feedback on the programme.
The BDM programme is a government initiative to transition television and radio broadcasting from analogue to digital technology.
Set-top boxes (decoders) are provided for free to qualifying indigent households. People who qualify are those earning R3 500 or less per month.
This provides free digital migration and ensures equitable access to digital television services. Application forms are available at the South African Post Office.
