KNYSNA NEWS - The Eden and Knysna swimming community, along with the George Agricultural Show, is mourning the untimely passing of former Show Queen, beloved coach and swimmer, Suné Erasmus.
Both organisations shared the heartbreaking news on their respective Facebook pages. At this stage, the cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
In a tribute, the George Agricultural Show wrote:
“Suné was crowned Show Queen in 2022, and from the moment she accepted the title, she captured the hearts of the George Agricultural Show community. Her reign was marked not only by grace and poise but also by her deep commitment and genuine care for the people and causes around her.
"Even after her official duties ended, Suné remained actively involved in the show, always offering a helping hand and initiating charitable projects entirely on her own.
"Suné was a worthy bearer of the crown. She didn’t just represent us - she embodied the spirit of the George Agricultural Show: compassion, leadership, and community.”
Eden Aquatics, where Suné served both as a coach and was once a swimmer herself, also shared their sorrow:
“We are very sad to announce the passing of coach and ex-swimmer Suné Erasmus. Your bright smile will be sadly missed around the pool. The thoughts and heartfelt condolences of the George Agricultural Show, Eden Aquatics, and the broader community go out to Suné’s parents, Machiel and Stephanie Erasmus, and her brother, Marnu, during this incredibly difficult time."
An enquiry has been sent to the police. Further information will be shared as it becomes available.
