KNYSNA NEWS - While many are compelled to cut back due to rising costs and financial uncertainty, one woman in Dam se Bos, Liezel Mathomane, is doing the opposite: giving more, even when she has less.
Mathomane, a devoted community member, has been operating a soup kitchen for the past five years, serving hot meals to the underprivileged four days a week.
Her efforts began thanks to the support of a few anonymous donors and she has since received contributions from local NGOs, including Gift of the Givers.
"Nothing has ever been too small or insignificant if it makes a difference in someone else's life," Mathomane says. Despite the loss of a longstanding overseas sponsor, Mathomane has persistently maintained the soup kitchen, often relying on her own funds to sustain it. She also recently partnered with Gift of the Givers and Kindness Like Confetti to host a successful women's outreach event.
Mathomane expressed heartfelt gratitude to Diane and Ian Armstrong, who were instrumental in helping her turn her vision into reality, as well as Clem and Alan Grey and Piet Putty for their unwavering support over the past three years.
Even amid ongoing challenges, she continues to go the extra mile to ensure that no one in her community goes hungry on the days the soup kitchen operates.
