PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Judgment in the Plettenberg Bay hospice nurse murder and rape case is expected to be delivered in the Knysna Circuit High Court today.
This after final arguments by the state and the defence in the matter was concluded over the past week.
Gcobani Lokwe, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, is accused of raping and killing the 63-year-old Schoongezicht Country Estate resident on 29 January last year.
He was arrested on 30 January 2018. Cumming's home had also been ransacked and her Volvo SUV was missing, but it was later found in Knysna. It was established that the cause of death was strangulation.
Lokwe has throughout the trial claimed his innocence despite DNA evidence placing Lokwe at the scene of the crime.
During his stint in the witness stand last week, Lokwe claimed he had had consensual sex with Cumming and that when he left she had still been alive.
He further said the forensic evidence found at the scene was planted there by authorities.
CCTV footage circulated on social media platforms following her death also placed him at the estate at the time of her death.
He admitted that he had been under the influence of methamphetamines and alcohol at the time of the incident, but that this did not cloud his thoughts.
Lokwe is currently facing several charges including rape, murder, malicious damage to property, assault, burglary with the intent to rob and murder, and defeating the ends of justice.
During his appearance last week, judge Patric Gamble indicated he would likely be ready to deliver judgment on 4 April.
