PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The Indoda Emadodeni Crime Forum (IECF) was recently established in Plettenberg Bay in response to the rising crime rates in Qolweni and the broader Plettenberg Bay area.
According to the chairman of the organisation, Mthetheleli Ngebesha, it had focused on ward 3, but they started to extend their efforts to all areas impacted by crime, including neighbouring towns such as Knysna - when cases led them there.
Currently the IECF works in collaboration with law enforcement authorities and maintains a close partnership with the local police station commander, law enforcement officers, and other crime-fighting entities.
Increase capacity
Ngebesha says the IECF hopes to formalise its operations and increase its capacity to serve the community more effectively.
"Plans include establishing a fully operational centre, securing administrative and communication tools, providing basic security and investigation training to volunteers, and acquiring patrol vehicles and scooters to cover areas as far as Knysna.
"We also aim to procure uniforms to improve visibility and allow volunteers to work in all weather conditions. Additionally, the forum plans to register with relevant regulatory bodies to ensure full compliance with legal requirements, further strengthening its ability to serve the community in the fight against crime. "
Community members are encouraged to report crime or share information. The chairman's contact details are publicly available on the IECF Facebook page.
