KNYSNA NEWS - On Saturday, 20 April, the Knysna Animal Welfare Society (KAWS) hosted a special event called Caturday.
This paw-some gathering brought together a delightful blend of yoga enthusiasts and cat fanatics, all eager to celebrate the incredible work done by KAWS for Knysna's precious pets.
Caturday took place at the Knysna Sports Academy field and was a cat-themed yoga session, where participants could indulge in peaceful yoga practice, savour soothing tea, and play with the adorable kittens at the KAWS Cattery.
Led by Kama Burman of the Lotus Studio in Knysna, this unique gathering aimed to raise awareness and support for a worthy cause.
Caturday was a heartwarming event that combined the benefits of yoga and the joy of spending time with pets. Attendees not only thoroughly enjoyed a rejuvenating yoga session but also supported the vital work of KAWS in caring for animals in need.
“Our 'Caturday' was aimed at giving more focus to the cats that are up for adoption, especially as we have had so many surrendered and stray cats coming through our doors over the past few months, with very few cat adoptions recently,” say KAWS.
KAWS, a prominent animal welfare organization, is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals, including cats, in the Knysna community.
Attendees of the Caturday event got a chance to mingle with the furry felines.
The community-driven organization runs on donations from the community and assists members of the community who aren't able to afford private veterinary care. A huge part of what KAWS does as an organization, is to rescue and rehome cats and dogs who are found as strays or surrendered by their owners.
The events hosted by KAWS aim to bring awareness to the sheer number of animals needing help, and adoptions, as well as to raise funds to help cover expenses.
The yoga session at Caturday was led by Kama Burman, a skilled instructor from the Lotus Studio in Knysna.
Participants were treated to a serene yoga practice, allowing them to find inner calmness and connect with their bodies. The presence of the kittens added an extra touch of joy and playfulness to the session.
“Our cattery is a little house on the property, with several rooms, filled with interactive toys, couches, cat-trees for climbing and other areas for relaxation, playing and cat naps. One of the rooms is dedicated specifically to kittens. It is a temporary home for the cats we rescue, until their forever family comes along. We try to make it as comfortable as we possibly can for them while they are in our care.” says KAWS about their cattery section.
They have an incredible cattery assistant, Zuzelity Ennis, who knows every cat and kitten, their likes and dislikes and takes exceptional care of them.
KAWS also has a team of regular cat volunteers, including Anika Venter and Lisa Schwartz who were instrumental in putting the Caturday Yoga event together.
Caturday received tremendous support from the local community, showcasing the collective commitment to animal welfare and the spirit of giving back.
