KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna police opened an inquest docket after the body of a 15-year-old boy was retrieved from the Akkerkloof Dam near Concordia, Knysna, on Monday 25 November, at about 10:20.
The Akkerkloof Dam is a holding dam under the jurisdiction of the Knysna municipality.
Sergeant Chris Spies, police spokesperson for the Southern Cape, said in a statement that a preliminary investigation indicated that a group of boys had swum in the dam on Sunday 24 November at about 17:00, around when the victim had disappeared in the water.
Search undertaken
"Emergency services were dispatched to the scene and commenced with a search until the evening," Spies said.
"Police divers resumed the search the following morning (2024-11-25), when they retrieved the body.
"The next of kin was already informed, but a formal identification is yet to be conducted. The investigation into this matter continues."
An enquiry has been sent to the Knysna municipality, and when a response is received, it will be published.
