PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Bitou Municipality has warned residents of an employment scam involving payment for job opportunities.
"It has come to our attention that individuals posing as representatives of Bitou Municipality are targeting residents in a fraudulent job scam," the municipal communications team said.
"These scammers falsely claim to have the authority to offer municipal jobs in exchange for payment or other forms of compensation."
They said that under no circumstances did the municipality engage in any recruitment practices that involve soliciting payment from job seekers.
"All legitimate job vacancies within the municipality are advertised through official channels, such as our website and social media pages, and do not require any form of payment for consideration," they stressed.
The municipality urged residents to exercise caution and vigilance when approached by individuals claiming to offer municipal employment opportunities.
Some of the red flags to be on the lookout for include: requests for payment or personal financial information in exchange for a job offer; pressure to act quickly or urgently in securing the supposed job opportunity; the lack of official documentation or proper channels for job application and recruitment, and unprofessional communication methods, such as unsolicited phone calls or emails from unknown sources.
If you encounter any suspicious activity or believe you have been targeted by job scammers, please report it to Bitou Municipality immediately.
