PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The majority of Bitou councillors are convening a special council meeting today, Friday 9 July, to elect a new mayor after the Western Cape High Court recently ordered the municipality to do so.
The court ordered Speaker Euan Wildeman to schedule the meeting for this date and should he fail to do so a majority of councillors were ordered to continue with the meeting despite the speaker's non-compliance.
Wildman did fail to schedule the meeting and the majority councillors decided to go ahead and schedule the meeting.
However, when they showed up at the council chambers, the keys to the chambers, including the spare keys, had mysteriously gone missing. The meeting will now be held at the councillors' offices in Seawitch Street.
More to follow as the story develops.
