PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - From clearing roads to crime fighting, Bitou's new leadership is showing that taking care of the community they serve is a top priority.
According to Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) operations head, Otto Olivier, a high-end bicycle was stolen in the vicinity of Sanganer Avenue on Monday morning.
He said the description and photos of the bicycle (red specialised women's dual suspension 29-inch) was immediately circulated on the PBCPA WhatsApp groups.
This is when the newly elected Bitou speaker, Claude Terblanche, jumped in. He and fellow members of the New Horizons Taakmag spotted the bicycle during their evening patrol. "They gave chase and the suspect dropped the bike and disappeared into the Bossiesgif informal settlement housing area," Olivier said.
The bicycle was returned to its owners, visitors from Victoria Falls. "They were jubilant when they heard the bike was found."
The speaker's enthusiastic service to the community comes after the newly elected mayor, Dave Swart, also personally jumped in to help after residents raised concerns when a ditch, made to repair water pipes, opened up in Odlands Drive last month. Not only did it pose a danger to motorists, but gravel was strewn across the busy road as the ditch had been filled with gravel but not resurfaced.
Soon after residents raised their concern, they were surprised to see Swart appear in the middle of the road. Armed with a shovel, broom and wheelbarrow, Swart did the job himself.
