SEDGEFIELD NEWS - Just before Christmas, the Sedgefield office of Knysna Tourism, along with Sotheby’s Sedgefield and Misfit Training and Events, hosted the sixth annual Sedgefield Beach Festival, which proved to be even bigger and better than the previous year’s festival.
The festival, which was held on 22 December, showed growth especially when it comes to the raising of funds towards local charity, the NSRI.

"Thank you to all entrants to the Slow Fun Run, the sandcastle building competition; treasure hunt entrants; as well as the generous sponsorships of accommodation, activities, vouchers and prizes. An amount of just under R4 000 was raised for NSRI Wilderness, which was almost double the amount raised in 2016," said Sedgefield tourism office manager Belinda Hobson.
The day started with the Slow Fun Run, which attracted more than 60 participants enjoying the scenery that Myoli beach has to offer.
"Some other 'beautiful scenery' the runners got to enjoy was that of our very own local, George-born, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) wrestler Justin Gabriel, aka Paul Lloyd, visiting from Florida. Gabriel opened the event and, together with Mr South Africa, Habib Noorbhai, acted as judge for the sandcastle building competition," said Hobson.
She added that Twizza Soft Drinks, a proudly South African product, added some "flavour and beat" to the event.
"Not only did folk enjoy in fun along some of the highest fossilised dunes in the world, but they were entertained by great local talent and had the opportunity to build a sandcastle, join in the egg toss and the kids got to dig in the sand for the treasures," said Hobson.
According to Hobson, great prizes from many generous sponsors were on offer, all depicting the theme for 2017: "Christmas time and festive fun and giving".
Hobson said that 15 "masterpieces" were built on Myoli beach during the sandcastle building competition, depicting Santa, Christmas trees, reindeer, a Christmas conveyer belt along with presents (the winning entry), and even a "Christmas wishing R2-D2" (a character from Star Wars).
"No one walked away empty-handed as additional prizes, giveaways and lucky draws were sponsored," said Hobson.
"Be sure to note this festival on your to-do list for the 2018 December holiday."
