PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Crime fighters have warned residents and visitors to be careful while using ATMs in the area after information surfaced that scammers are targeting the area.
Plettenberg Bay's neighbourhood watch group Plett.Watch has reported a recent incident at an ATM at the Shell Ultra City.
It is believed that someone using the ATM was distracted while trying to withdraw money by three men who allegedly tried to "show" him how to do the transaction.
"He managed to keep his card and left immediately," said Plett.Watch's Lisa Nagel. The matter has been reported to local police who committed to keeping an eye out.
"Please do not be distracted by anyone at an ATM and if you are concerned, rather go to an ATM inside a shop, or draw cash at the cashiers in the supermarkets.
"Do not let anyone try to assist you at the ATM machines, and if your card does not come out of the machine, do not leave the machine until you have called the bank and cancelled your card," advised Nagel.
