PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - About 55 people were affected when a fire swept through several informal homes in Bossiesgif on Monday morning.
Among those affected are more than 30 adults and more than 20 children.
While the cause of the fire is still unknown, the Bitou Municipality confirmed that the fire started in the early hours of Monday morning.
It was brought under control by Bitou firefighters during the course of the morning. The community of Bossiesgif has been plagued by fires over the past few months. In May alone, three fires left more than 150 people destitute.
A call was made for support for the families who lost everything in the fire and the Bitou community once again opened their hearts and wallets and donated necessities ranging from toiletries to bedding. There are however more items needed to assist the affected families including more toiletries, baby formula and other necessities, clothing and bedding. Should anyone want to assist, they can drop donations off at Native Roots Shelter on the corner of Marine Way and Seawitch Avenue in Plettenberg Bay.
