PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plettenberg Bay Rotary Club will be pulling out all the stops as it celebrates its 40th anniversary.
Two events have been organised as part of the celebrations, a golf day at Goose Valley Golf Club on 10 April and a "Magnificently Plett" annual photographic competition. The winning photographs will be incorporated in Rotary's 2027 calendar.
Plett Rotary president Tricia Wylde said: "We invite you to join us on this occasion, creating a day of golf, connection, and purpose that will leave a lasting impression on everyone involved. This event is more than just swinging clubs on a prestigious golf course: it is a collaboration of community and generosity, making a positive impact on the lives of those who require support in our community and beyond."
The Plettenberg Bay Rotary Club is part of District 9350, which covers the area of the Western Cape and Northern Cape in South Africa, as well as Namibia and Angola.
It was chartered on 9 June 1986, "and we now celebrate 40 years of collaboration with other local and international organisations and donors", said Wylde.
Local communities
A large percentage of its fundraising efforts in Plettenberg Bay is aimed at benefitting communities within the Bitou Municipality.
Among the programmes it has supported are:
- youth leadership programmes
- sports development in gymnastics, netball, rugby, football, karate, and boxing
- theatre-in-education through Lunchbox Theatre
- drug-rehabilitation programmes
- disaster relief.
"During our previous financial year, we also assisted 18 students from Bitou to further their studies at various tertiary institutions," said Wylde.
Rotary meets every second and fourth Thursday at the Bitou Vineyards at 16:00 for 16:30. Any fellow Rotarians or people with an interest in finding out more about Rotary are invited to join them. Contact club secretary Mike Kantey on 072 628 5131.
