PLETENBERG BAY NEWS - After nearly 15 years of teaching life-saving water safety skills to local youth, non-profit organisation Adopt A Swimmer (AAS) marked a major milestone on Monday 1 September with the graduation of its first group of adult participants.
Traditionally focused on children from disadvantaged backgrounds, AAS has recently expanded its reach to include adults - an initiative made possible through the support of local businesses embracing the programme as part of their corporate social responsibility.
Among the first to partner in this new chapter is Louise Ott, head of The Beacon Island Resort in Plettenberg Bay. Ott enrolled members of her team in the swimming programme, empowering them with a vital life skill while also contributing to their personal development and confidence.
Also supporting the initiative is Npod Nails, a women-led business focused on empowerment, which has joined forces with AAS to sponsor swimming lessons for individuals in need.
With 12 adults currently enrolled, the expansion reflects AAS' growing impact across all age groups in the community.
"For nearly 15 years, we've focused on children," said founder Louise Auersberg. "To now see adults benefitting thanks to the support of local businesses is a powerful new chapter in our journey."
AAS invites more businesses and community members to get involved in this life-changing initiative, ensuring that swimming lessons remain accessible to all, regardless of socio-economic background.
