KNYSNA NEWS - The Friends of the Knysna Libraries recently celebrated a successful South African Library Week (SALW) at libraries and institutions around Knysna.
SALW was celebrated this year between 14 and 20 March under the theme of 'ReImagine! RePurpose! ReDiscover ... Libraries!' and the Friends made it their mission to make it a special celebration in Knysna.
With Knysna Municipality, the organisation helped put together various events throughout the week, including opening the research activities room at the Knysna Public Library to the public and offering the opportunity to learn all about genealogy research at the Cearn Hall Library.
Schools could also bring their learners out and celebrate SALW by visiting local libraries and taking part in special readathons, for which they received certificates from acting children's librarian Monica Frans.
The library also arranged a visit to the correctional services to promote reading.
"Each event was thoughtfully arranged and managed by the staff of the Knysna library - a huge thumbs-up to them all!" said Tracy Eray of the Friends of the Knysna Libraries.
Owena Schutte hosted a 'meet the author' event during SALW.
The library staff wore traditional clothing during the library week. From left: Monica Frans, Matilda Janklaas, Mendisa Lungu, Yamkela Funani, Elaine Spies, Thandiwe Stemela, Beatrice Jonkers and Silakhe Oyo.
