PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Four hundred homeowners from all parts of Bitou were handed title deeds to their homes at an Imbizo held at the New Horizon community hall on Thursday 16 May. Deputy Minister of Human Settlements Pam Tshwete officiated during the handing-over ceremony as excitement reached bubbling point.
A host of Bitou Council's top brass, including Mayor Claude Terblanche, Deputy Mayor Nokuzola Kolwapi, Speaker Sandiso Gcabayi, Chief Whip Samkele Mangxaba and other councillors accompanied Tshwete.
Tshwete was taken on a tour of the new Ebenezer housing project that will eventually see 1 400 new homes for Plettenberg Bay residents.
At the community hall a singing and dancing crowd filled the hall as the recipients of the title deeds filed through on stage.
The Rev Nicholas Mfecane, municipal outreach coordinator for the IEC in Bitou, also explained the different ballot papers that will be at voting stations on 29 May and stressed the importance of voters voting where they are registered to enable them to use all three ballot papers.
Tshwete said the handover over of the deeds was proof that the government was building homes for the elderly, disabled and even the destitute.
"What I saw in Bitou I will never forget… I saw housing delivery," said Tshwete.
She warned people not be tempted to sell their houses now that they had title deeds to their properties.
The properties are for you and your children – the next generation," she said.
