PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - A fire - the fourth in Qolweni in six months - has destroyed a number of houses and a shop.
The fire started about lunchtime today, Monday 27 October .
It was still burning at about 16:00 and fire and emergency services were on the scene.
There are no indications yet of how many houses were destroyed by the fire.
The Dignity Fund Garden Route has called for donations to assist those affected.
Urgent needs are bread, jam, sandwich spread, blankets, pillows, pillowcases and baby clothes, bottles and formula.
Also required are men’s clothing (pants and shirts), and children’s and women’s clothing in all sizes.
Other items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, washcloths, towels, soap, deodorant and sanitary products are also needed.
Donations can be he dropped off at the Native Roots shelter, corner of Marine Drive and Seawitch Avenue.

Bitou Municipality update
In a recent update on Facebook, Bitou Municipality said the fire broke out in the Bossiesgif area shortly after 13:00.
Fire and Rescue Services were working to extinguish the blaze, it said.
“At this stage, there is no confirmed information regarding the extent of the damage or any injuries. Updates will be provided as soon as further details become available.”
Previous fire
The municipality said today's fire follows one on Saturday 25 October in which one dwelling was destroyed and a life was lost. “Our thoughts remain with the affected families during this difficult time.”
Support
The municipality is co-ordinating support measures for those impacted by today’s fire. Information on relief assistance and community support will be shared shortly.
“We urge residents to remain vigilant and co-operate with emergency personnel. Please avoid the affected area to allow rescue teams to operate safely and efficiently," the statement said.
