PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The Plett Arts Festival is around the corner and promises to entertain a wide array of lovers of the arts, but one event might grab the attention of future dancers, and will see award-winning dancer and choreographer Mamela Nyamza not only entertain, but also share her knowledge during a workshop session.
On Sunday 24 June, Gugulethu-born Nyamza – who has starred in various major international musicals including The Lion King in Den Haag, Netherlands in 2004; We Will Rock You in South Africa in 2006 Africa; and African Footprints – will be hosting a dance workshop at 14:00 at the Piesang Valley Hall.
Nyamza is one of several experts who will be presenting workshops on a variety of topics during the festival.
Following her workshop, on Monday 25 June at 19:00 – same venue, Nyamza will be showcasing her play De-Apart-Hate.
In the play Nyamza, with Aphiwe Livi, confronts prejudice in a multi-layered piece that reflects the complexities of current issues in society and the world. According to Nyamza it is not overtly about apartheid or about race, but more about power structures.
