PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The Bitou Municipality and partners launched a radio, film and television learnership programme this week.
Twenty young people were selected through an open process to learn the theory and practice of film and television production while another twenty will focus on radio.
The partners in this initiative include the Bitou Municipality, Longships (Pty) LTD, MICT Seta, and the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda). The programme will run over the course of a year.
Seda will help the participants with business training, registering their businesses, and providing other relevant information and opportunities within the media industry.
Bitou's local online radio station, Radio 204, will be used for practical training for those who are doing radio production, while veteran producer of Special Assignment Johan Abrahams will train those who were selected for film and TV production.
In his speech at the launch, Bitou Mayor Dave Swart encouraged those selected to make use of the opportunity that they have been granted and become an inspiration to the next generation of storytellers.
Radio 204 station manager Sibongile Tom also expressed his excitement to the leadership of the town for laying a solid foundation to develop radio and TV production skills among young people of the town. He also welcomed the opportunity granted to Radio 204 to be part of the initiative.
