KNYSNA NEWS - Revive Knysna, a non-profit community group passionate about reviving and beautifying the town, has won the hearts of locals through their undeterred efforts to make Knysna beautiful again.
The dedicated group believes that it is the small projects that will make a difference in the town and its people. Group member Gail Sofianos said that they aim to create a mind-shift of "it starts with me".
"Leading at the forefront and by example, we want to inspire and motivate the Knysna community to hop on board with our #pavementproud movement. Join us to beautify Knysna one community project at a time," she said.
Support
Their first project in August entailed cleaning up and planting flowers on the sidewalk along the train tracks at the Long Street/Waterfront Drive intersection.
Sofianos said they collaborated with various businesses to execute several missions.
"We are relying solely on community support and received generous donations of plants, topsoil, designs, labour and funding. The Knysna Fire Department watered the freshly laid beds and the Knysna Municipality Parks Department carted away loads of rubbish after the clean-up."
Revive Knysna is affiliated with the Greater Knysna Business Chamber, which streamlines communication with local businesses about the planning and implementation of new projects. "We are very thankful for the support and faith our community has in us," said Sofianos. "We are challenging every resident and business to join the movement and begin by cleaning up their own verge and beautifying it. If all businesses get on board, it will have a massive impact on the town of Knysna."
They have been involved in various projects, which include repairing and painting the bus shelter at the Knysna Provincial Hospital, transforming Waterfront Drive, the fountain in Waterfront Drive and Tide Street, and working at the iconic Heritage Building at Thesen House. They are currently upgrading popular walking/cycling paths, and future projects include various clean-up challenges.

Mayoral thanks
Knysna Mayor Levael Davis said the municipality is looking forward to building a relationship with the organisation.
"Their passion to selflessly serve the town is contagious and unmistakable and as a town we need to ensure that these efforts do not go to waste. Thank you to those businesses that already got involved. We want to reiterate their request for other residents and businesses to come on board and take ownership of the areas around their premises. Let us all jump in and help Revive Knysna to do what their name says - revive Knysna," said Davis.
