KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna flexed its muscles during the Destiny Rise of Iron bodybuilding and fitness challenge on Saturday 16 March when the town's Clayton Kiewitz secured first place in the open men's physique category.
The competition was hosted by the Garden Route Casino in Mossel Bay and attracted athletes from across the Garden Route, Cape Town and Uganda battling it out on stage.
The event, which focused on novice and beginner athletes, was well attended with more than 200 supporters cheering the competitors on.
Two athletes from Mossel Bay dominated the novice men's beach model category with Brahim Moos and Lindon Mahoney taking first and second place respectively.
George was also well represented with nine of the category winners hailing from the Garden Route town.
Oudtshoorn had one of the youngest competitors in Gino Nortjie Williams, who is only 16 years old.
Knysna's Kiewitz took victory in the open men's physique category and Ugandan competitor Byron Wodeya secured the overall men's bodybuilding title.
Wodeya was also selected to compete in the European Classic in the UK on 11 May.
During the event it was announced that the Garden Route Bodybuilding Classic on 8 June will from now on be a provincial selection event for Garden Route athletes, which means should an athlete be selected, they will be eligible to compete in the SA Championships.
