PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Bitou Municipality has vowed to address what has not only been a major eyesore for Plettenberg Bay, but also a nest for criminal activities.
Bitou public safety head Andile Sakati said that officers of his department recently uncovered illegal activities taking place in a vacant structure on Signal Hill.
"The structure that is standing empty at Signal Hill is being used by vagrants and criminals for their illegal shenanigans," Sakati said.
Video footage has proved that the illegal occupants use the building to do drugs, indecent acts, and other crime-related activities.
"The BMLE is concerned that this structure is a danger to society and can expose the community to these and other gruesome forms of criminal activity such as rape and murder."
Sakati said the matter will be taken up with local police to be properly addressed.
"This structure is close to one of our major tourist attraction sites and both our locals and visitors could be exposed to the risk of crime."
This is not the first time illegal activities have been uncovered at the property, which has become known as the "votel".
Local crime fighters raid the area on a regular basis, but the culprits keep moving back in soon afterwards.
The property could not only expose locals to crime, but poses a health threat as well.
Vagrants keep returning to the property after crime fighters have cleared it.
