Ten other marine sculptures and paintings by Frank are still on display at the Turbine Hotel and open to silent bidding. Interested folk are invited to view the pieces on display at the Island Café within the Turbine Hotel and indicate their bid amount on the provided bidding papers.
Proceeds of the silent auction will be used in various other creative attempts to promote Knysna as the home of the iconic seahorse and educate children about the importance of the Knysna Estuary. This event is hosted once again by the Hope Spot committee in the run up to the international launch of the Knysna Hope Spot on December 7. The auction pieces are currently on display and bidding will be open until October 31 at the venue.
About the artist
Charl Frank is a passionate environmentalist focusing his creative work on ecological matters of interest. Some of his most successful pieces include the recent underwater world record sculpture of the Knysna Seahorse and prior to that, his Guinness World Record for the largest underwater painting; named “Waterbirth” Frank will now attempt other records to promote his cause, such as the largest glow in the dark painting, largest steel sculpture made by one person and the longest underwater painting in the world.
The current silent auction will form the basis to promote these future records. He is also a published poet and an accomplished playwright with performances of his work both at the HB Thom Stellenbosch University Theatre and the ArtsCape Theatre in Cape Town.
