KNYSNA NEWS - Creativity was on full display at the Unblocked Art Show, hosted at the Knysna Old Goal Museum on 1 July.
For the six years that “Unblocked” has been an institution at the gallery, the directive has been for artists to create a piece according to a theme on a 30cm x 30cm canvas.
Part of the proceeds of the art pieces will be donated to charities of the artists’ choice. Guests were treated to a smooth saxophone performance by Jaco Krieg.

“The Oyster Festival is always a good time for us to have an event and showcase the talent of our artists,” says Zelmarie van Rooyen, of the Knysna Arts Society.” The ‘Unblocked’ exhibition has been happening annually for six years now and with more and more keen participation each time. All in all, the event is a collaboration between the Knysna Arts Society and the community.” The Knysna Arts Society currently boast 180 artists.
“Unblocked” is curated by Knysna sculptor Gary Davis. “The collaboration of the ‘Unblocked’ exhibition goes back many years,” he says. “The 'Unblocked’ exhibition aims to unify artists with a single theme in a consolidated size, and it puts everyone on the same scale. The exhibition brings together both established and emerging artists, thus bringing a high calibre of art. The exhibition reaffirms Knysna as an art destination.”
The “Unblocked” exhibition will be running from 1 to 14 July and is one of the first stops on this year’s Knysna Oyster Festival Art Walk.
