PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - In an effort to improve Bitou residents' chances to find employment, the municipality and various partners launched a training programme in the Kranshoek community on 1 June.
The programme is a joint effort by the Bitou Municipality and Misuyolo PTY (Ltd) and is financially sponsored by the Department of Labour.
It forms part of the Garden Route Skills Mecca (GRSM), driven by the economic development section.
According to the municipality, the project provides an opportunity for 150 beneficiaries to be upskilled in various trades, including tour guides, management, horticulture, early childhood development, clothing design and manufacturing.
In addition, learners will have the opportunity to register for their driver's license and also complete business registrations where required.
The project will run for a full year.
Organisers plan to continue the project in the coming years.
The intention of the project is to give beneficiaries a realistic chance to qualify for employment opportunities.
