PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS – A high-speed chase that ensued after law enforcers were called out to a domestic dispute in Plettenberg Bay last week was ended as a result of co-operation between various crime fighters.
Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) operations head Otto Olivier said that they had been called to assist with a domestic dispute in a secure estate on Thursday 2 February.
"The violent male resident fled the scene and was seen speeding and driving erratically up Piesang Valley onto the N2," Olivier said.
During his high-speed flight, the driver also allegedly collided with two other vehicles. Olivier said they notified local police and Bitou municipal law enforcement and various PBCPA members responded to assist. Help was also dispatched to the woman involved in the domestic dispute.
He said that the vehicle was identified via licence plate recognition (LPR) cameras as it was speeding on the R340.
"The vehicle was picked up and chased down by a Rapid Response member."
Despite the fact that the vehicle had a burst tyre and damaged wheel - caused by the earlier crashes with other vehicles - the driver allegedly continued to drive recklessly.
"With the assistance of Provincial Traffic and other PBCPA members, all possible alternative routes, where the driver of the vehicle could have evaded arrest, were covered while moving towards the speeding vehicle."
The vehicle was eventually stopped and the driver apprehended. No serious injuries were reported.
The car was damaged badly in the high-speed chase.
