Update
KNYSNA NEWS – The contractors in charge of the Gray Street redevelopment project have handed in a request for extension of the project timeline to Knysna Municipality, with no new expected completion date named.
The project, which has dragged on way past its proposed date of completion, was supposed to have been finished by today, 1 July.
However, with much of the work on the final block yet to be done, on Tuesday 29 June municipal spokesperson Christopher Bezuidenhoudt confirmed that they have "received notices for an extension" from the contractors.
The Gray Street redevelopment project has been in a constant state of construction since the R17-million project started in February 2020, with numerous delays through the course of the past year.
When the project started, the aim was to have the road completed by April this year, but due to delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and various rainy spells, the completion date was postponed until July.

Work on Block 4 started in mid-January and missed its April deadline, with the work only commencing on the final stretch (Block 5) on Monday 14 June.
Despite this theoretically leaving the contractors with only 16 days to complete the final block, Bezuidenhoudt had remained confident that the contractors would honour the 1 July deadline.
However, this week he said that the new completion date would "be communicated in due course".
