KNYSNA NEWS - Nyiko Masango, also known as Mr Dynamix, stopped over in Plettenberg Bay last week on day 21 of his 27-day journey from Beitbridge to Cape Town, which aims at furthering his campaign, Presence in Fatherhood.
Mr Dynamix made his way into Plettenberg Bay on 11 December after cycling 164km from St Francis on the day, having already completed just over 2 600km of the 3 143km journey that started at the Beitbridge border post between South Africa and Zimbabwe on 21 November.
He has since cycled through five of South Africa's nine provinces with the journey set to conclude today, 17 December, in Cape Town. While the cycle from St Francis to Plett was Masango's longest single-day stretch, his final six days after Plett include four of his five shortest stretches.
"I planned it like this, to allow for me to be able to wind down and cool down as I head into the final leg into Cape Town," Masango said. He will still deal with two stretches of over 100km, but the other four are all 95km and shorter. "By now, even 100km is like a walk in the park for me, because my legs are almost numb from all the cycling," Masango quipped. He has stopped over in a number of towns and cities around the country, and has been treated to some of the country's most breathtaking scenery.
"I could have easily chosen the short route along the N1 and gotten boring scenery, but I love the views as they often provide me with drive and inspiration," Masango said, explaining that he chose his final route for the fact that it would offer up stunning views along the way. "We live in a truly beautiful country, but I really found the Eastern Cape particularly beautiful."
Masango's Presence in Fatherhood campaign aims to emphasise the importance of a child having an involved father figure during their upbringing. "My father was around a child, but not always as involved as one would have hoped," said Masango, who hails from Nkowankow in Limpopo. It was this reason, coupled with a custody battle for his son during his divorce that spurred him on to start the campaign.
