PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - A teenager was assaulted, stabbed and robbed in broad daylight in Plettenberg Bay on Sunday 30 October.
Thanks to the swift response from local crime fighters, the 17-year-old girl's alleged attacker was arrested shortly after the incident.
Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) operations head Otto Olivier said they received an alert about the attack in the vicinity of Lundy Island Avenue just before 12:00 on Sunday.
He said that PBCPA first responders and volunteers responded and found the visibly traumatised girl lying on the pavement under a tree.
It is believed that a man approached the girl, who was selling newspapers, knocked her on the head and stabbed her with a sharp object before robbing her of money and belongings.
After gathering information about the suspect, volunteers launched a search for the assailant.
"During the meticulous search a discarded light blue [pair of] jeans was found [that] the assailant was allegedly wearing," Olivier said.
Not long after this discovery, one of the PBCPA's rapid response members tracked down a man fitting the description of the suspect and apprehended him. The suspect was handed over to the police. By the time of going to print, no further information had been released by the police.

Laptop theft
In an unrelated incident, PBCPA volunteers responded to another incident just after 17:00 - this time a burglary in Rosheen Crescent where laptops were stolen. Olivier said the alert was only received 20 minutes after the incident, which made the search for suspects difficult.
"No trace of the suspects was found. The quicker we receive alerts, the more dramatically the possibility of a positive outcome increases," Olivier added.
